🔌 Power Supply Guide

Three power supply models are used across the entire Forest of Light installation. Each model serves a different purpose based on voltage requirements, wattage capacity, and cable run distances. Understanding which PSU to use for each product is critical to safe and reliable operation.

Voltage Adjustment Rules (HLG-320W)

The HLG-320W is the only model with a user-adjustable voltage potentiometer. Follow these rules strictly:

  • Normal use: Do not adjust. Leave at the factory default of 24V.
  • Long cable runs: You may increase voltage up to approximately ~26V to compensate for voltage drop over distance.
  • NEVER set to 27.7V: Running at maximum voltage will degrade and damage LEDs at the start of the light string.
  • Always verify with a multimeter after making any adjustment.
⚠️
Warning: Setting the HLG-320W to 27.7V will cause permanent LED damage. Always verify output voltage with a multimeter before connecting lights.

When to Use Each Model

HLG-320W

  • Best for long distance, low power applications.
  • Supports up to 30 sets of low-wattage products on a single PSU.
  • Used for: decorative spheres (Item 1), arch decorations (Item 3), and similar low-draw products.

XLG-320W

  • Best for high power applications and connecting multiple units to a single supply.
  • Used for: balls on trees, mushrooms, balloons, and igloo lighting.
  • Adjustable 12–24V range supports a wider variety of LED products.

XLG-200W

  • Dedicated to tree items (9–11), igloos, and letter/sign lights.
  • Fixed voltage — no adjustment needed or possible.
  • One PSU per tree — do not share across multiple trees.
  • Letter lights: Position the PSU in the middle of the sign run for even power distribution.

💡
Tip: When in doubt about cable length, measure the run and check voltage at the far end with a multimeter. If voltage drops more than 1–2V from the PSU output, consider feeding from both ends or increasing PSU voltage (HLG-320W only, max ~26V).
